Formerly of Northern Ireland, Jonny’s passion for cooking has gained widespread recognition within the hospitality industry.

Having worked with Paul Rankin at the Michelin starred Roscoff in Belfast Jonny moved to Scotland in August 1999 as a Sous Chef at Gleneagles, before moving to Ballathie House Hotel, swiftly becoming Head Chef. In 2007 Jonny became Head Chef at Murrayshall Country House Hotel in Scone retaining 2 AA Rosettes for the restaurant and achieving a silver from Eat Scotland.

During Jonny’s career he has been fortunate to have cooked for well-known people including members of the royal family and has completed ‘stages’ at restaurants including Marco Pierre White’s ‘Mirabelle’ and Michel Roux Jr.’s ‘Le Gavroche’.

In his spare time Jonny enjoys spending time with family, foraging and salmon fishing.

    Vote for us

Carlowrie Castle has been shortlisted by design et al, one of Europe’s  leading interior design magazines for “The best hotel in Europe under 200 rooms” at The International Hotel & Property Awards 2016. Carlowrie is one of three shortlisted European hotels. The awards are looking for hotels that inspire our senses from a design perspective.

The awards are different to other design awards as they are not judged by a panel. Short listed projects are presented online, and voting is open to industry professionals as well as design et al readers, clients and customers.

Last year over 50,000 people voted online so we would love your support to help us try to bring the award back to Scotland. Please vote for us on this link http://www.thedesignawards.co.uk/ihp/

Voting opened on Wednesday the 17th of August and lasts for 4 weeks, the award will be presented at the Hotel Cipriani, Venice on Friday 16th September 2016

    Many thanks, The Carlowrie Team

  • Carlowrie Castle Calisthenics Park

    26th July 2016

Carlowrie Castle are consulting with some of the biggest names in UK calisthenics to assist us with designing and building the Carlowrie Castle Calisthenics Park. CCCP will be one of the most technically advanced and largest in Scotland and will be finished and ready to use by the end of 2016

The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kálos which means “beauty”, and sthénos meaning “strength”. It is the art of using one’s body weight and qualities of inertia as a means to develop one’s physique. A longstanding urban legend has claimed that the exercise was named after one of its earliest promotors, the Greek historian Callisthenes.

In calisthenics, progress is made by moving onto more challenging movements, not by simply moving to a heavier weight like you would with a weights machine or dumb bell in a conventional gym. The beginner who starts out with a wall push-up or kneeling push-up before progressing to a full push-up can eventually progress all the way to a one-arm pull up and they also learn plenty along the way.

Watch Frank Medrano one of the worlds best in action   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFPsvF3UOdo

“I first got into calisthenics when I jumped onto a pull up bar one day and decided to try out a few bodyweight exercises. I loved the feeling I got from pulling myself up. I felt an amazing rush of inner strength that got me hooked onto building my physique through calisthenics ever since” – Frank Medrano

  • Nope – no Pokemons here!

    18th July 2016

Rumour has it we ‘had’ a Pokemon appear at the weekend – we would know if we have and we haven’t seen it – we looked everywhere!.

As much as we want to be up with the latest trends and down with the kids, there are no Pokestops, no eggs and no gyms. We do have quite a few Roe deer, rabbits and birds, a tennis court, fountains and mysterious room with no access to it in the turret.

Carlowrie is a family friendly ‘non-combat’ private estate. Terrestrial visits are by appointment only – we don’t want to disappoint or appear to be rude by refusing access – ‘…Go’ Away’ if you stroll up the drive un-announced – see what we did there! Our virtual viewings can be arranged by Skype and Facebook. Thank you
